Club Bulletin 2024-25 #14

This edition features the 2024 Sydney Hills Garden Competition.

The Sydney Hills Garden Competition, Presentation Night was held at Harvey Lowe Pavilion, Friday 27th September, 2024. An Orange Blossom event, which was judged between 16th and 20th September by Lucia Fowler and Ross Bolwell was very well attended. We were honoured that Hon. Mark Hodges MP (Member for Castle Hill), Hills Shire Mayor Dr Pater Gangemi, Mayor Elect, Dr Michelle Byrne; recently re-elected Councillors Mitchell Blue and Frank De Masi, Rotary 9685 Governor Niranjan Deodhar and Janelle Craig (representing Community Services Director, Mina Howard) joined the festivities. Some addressed the attendees and facilitated the presentation of awards.

George (Eric) Mobbs, a Hills Shire Councilor (1955–1977) and is credited for the origins of this annual event and the Shire’s reputation as “the Garden Shire”. He moved that Council hold a competition on the last Saturday of November 1959, for the best-kept footpaths within the Shire and was one of three Councillors on the sub-committee.
